Is Death the End of All ?

How short is life as journey from cradle to grave!! Infancy, child hood, teenage, adulthood, old age, all ends in a matter of few years. The short-lived nature of life has been the over-riding theme of most elegiac poems. Some compare human life to the summer rain; to the flower that blooms in the morning and withers in the evening; to the morning dew-drops which vanishes and never returns. Overcoming the onslaught of temptation

What to do when temptation comes calling? The one good thing about long traffic signals in Indian cities is that it gives enough time for checking mails, updating social media pages, day dreaming, planning for the day, praying and sometimes even quick naps. But at times it could turn out to be the source of strong cravings as well. Waiting at one such 5-minute traffic signal in Bangalore, I looked to my right to realize that I’m just a few inches away from boxes loaded with currency notes.

Comparing the incomparable!

“God, if you can’t make me thin, then make my friends look fat” – the late humourist and columnist Erma Bombeck once prayed. Even as we laugh at the wittiness of those words, it tacitly points to the often overlooked problem of comparison. Comparing one’s complexion, physique, skill, salary, car, house and other measurable and immeasurable things to that of others is nothing but a natural tendency and a way of life for almost all.

Can Good Works Save Me ?

All religions encourage doing good deeds. It is considered as the way to earn moksha or salvation. But can good deeds guarantee you a place in heaven? Will it save your soul from eternal punishment ? A religious person may argue, “God will take into account my good deeds. I fast, I pray so many times a day, I give money to the poor and help the needy. Surely, God will weigh up my merits on the last day.
